The Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health (WAWH) is seeking women's health advocates to join the WAWH Board of Directors for a two year term beginning in January 2020. Interested individuals should apply before September 30th.
The WAWH Board of Directors is a working board that seeks women of diverse backgrounds who are willing to contribute their time and talents to support the organization's fundraising, event planning and outreach efforts. Wisconsinites who care about improving the health safety and economic security of women and girls in our state are encouraged to apply. The Board of Directors typically meets four times per year usually in Madison.
Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health (WAWH) Board members are expected to contribute to the organization in the following ways:
Attend at least 3 of the 4 scheduled Board meetings in-person or by phone
Demonstrate support for WAWH by promoting its good work, generating goodwill for the organization, encouraging support for its efforts, and keeping informed about its programs and activities
Contribute knowledge and skills in at least one area essential to Board governance (see below)
Help promote WAWH visibility and advocate for its programs
Help develop WAWH financial or other resources
Participate in hiring the Executive Director and reviewing the Executive Director’s performance annually
Participate in reviewing strategic plans and setting long-term priorities
Participate in reviewing and approving an annual budget for the organization and reviewing its revenues and expenses on a quarterly basis to ensure that WAWH’s mission is being upheld and its finances managed in a sound and ethical manner
Participate in WAWH events i.e. Annual Policy Summits and staff meetings
Help WAWH understand and reach diverse communities and grow its support base
Set procedures and policies to ensure that the corporation is organized and managed in an accountable, fair and systematic manner and in compliance with applicable law
Individual Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health Board performance is regularly evaluated using the following criteria:
Attend at least 3 of the 4 scheduled Board meetings in-person or by phone
Act on behalf of the corporation and its interests, putting aside personal concerns, affiliations or constituencies
Make an annual personal financial contribution to WAWH
Participate in WAWH fundraising campaigns
Help staff to promote WAWH good work and visibility, introducing the organization to new communities, corporate sponsors, foundations, media and helpful individuals and potential partners
Contribute expertise in particular areas of nonprofit management, governance, finance, membership, or other areas that advance WAWH mission and strategy.
