RESPECT Women Act

RESPECT Women Act

Take Action
Deciding to start a family, delay becoming a parent or ending a pregnancy are some of the most personal decisions a woman could make.  A woman should be able to make that decision without political interference.

Despite this, for the last six years, Wisconsin state legislators have passed laws that take information and options away from a woman and her family. These laws disregard medical science, the wellbeing of patients, and the patient-doctor relationship. This unprecedented political interference with patients’ personal health care decisions undermines women’s health in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin women and their health care providers deserve better!

The RESPECT Women Act promotes a vision that a woman has the ability and support to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions free from harassment, intimidation, political interference, or false information. That’s something we can all believe in.

Respect Women Act
FACT SHEET

“Every woman deserves– indeed, every patient deserves – accurate information from a medical professional, and the freedom to decide what to do with it.”” – Alta Charo, JD, Warren P. Knowles Professor of Law and Bioethics, University of Wisconsin Law and Medical Schools

"I am proud to continue providing women with comprehensive reproductive health care during my over 40-year career as a practicing OB/GYN.  As a clinician who is dedicated to ensuring that women have access to the care they need, the past six years of Wisconsin politicians interfering with and politicizing the care I provide to my patients have been incredibly discouraging.  It's time for health care professionals to say 'enough is enough' to these political attacks on our professions and our patients.  That's why I am happy to support the Respect Women Act, which will allow me to do the job I was trained to do and my patients to access the care that they need." - Dr. Douglas Laube, MD, Past President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Past Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin

“We all recognize and celebrate the great diversity of religious faiths and teachings that Americans follow, and believe that everyone’s right of conscience should be protected, but that protection does not extend to imposing one person’s beliefs on someone else.” – Rabbi Bonnie Marqulis, Wisconsin Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
