Wisconsin Families Need Support to Thrive
- Not Abortion Bans
Instead of ensuring Wisconsin families are healthy and thrive with maternal care, paid leave, and affordable child care, every year our state lawmakers prioritize passing abortion restrictions and bans. And soon the Supreme Court will help them ban abortion.
What's at Stake in Wisconsin When the Supreme Court Guts Roe v Wade?
The Freedom to Control Your Own Body, Life, and Future
The Supreme Court is deciding a case this year that will take away our legal right to abortion. With an old abortion ban on the books and an anti-abortion legislature blocked only by the Governor, abortion access is already hanging by a thread in Wisconsin. Your right to abortion - and the freedom to control your own body, life, and future - isn’t as protected as you might think.
In 1849, Wisconsin made it a felony to have or provide an abortion. While that law became unenforceable after Roe v. Wade, Wisconsin never took its criminal abortion ban off the books. This law is incredibly harsh and does not have exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother. The only way an individual could legally have an abortion under this law would be if they were about to die as a result of their pregnancy.
If Roe were overturned, Wisconsin’s criminal abortion law could be enforceable once again, and Wisconsin could return to a time where individuals are simply not allowed to make their own health care decisions.

Everyone Should Have the Support They Need to Have a Healthy Family
Wisconsin families are struggling. But state lawmakers continue to pushing their anti-abortion agendas over policies that support Wisconsin women, kids, and families.

The Wisconsin Birth Equity Act aims to disrupt our state's most onerous barriers to child and maternal health, while also bringing awareness to these pervasive disparities. With innovative policies targeted at increasing access to full-spectrum care, financial resilience, and comprehensive insurance coverage, the Wisconsin Birth Equity Act is nothing short of groundbreaking. This bill package is a significant first step toward instituting actionable policy and system changes for Wisconsin’s BIPOC mothers and infants.
The Wisconsin Family Medical Leave Insurance Act (AB 666 & SB 596) creates an employee-funded state insurance fund to provide wage replacement for employees who take leave from work to care for a new child, care for themselves if they become seriously ill, or provide care to a family member who is seriously ill. This legislation provides job protection for employees who take a qualifying leave and expands the definition of "family member" for whom an employee can take leave in order to provide care. It also benefits businesses by providing a tool for employers to retain workers. Wisconsin's workers and businesses need Paid Family Leave.
We know that 63% of adult Medicaid enrollees are women and as coordinators of care for their families, women make 80% of the health care decisions for their loved ones. To help make health care coverage more affordable and accessible in Wisconsin, we need to fully Expand BadgerCare!
Affordable child care
RESPECT Act includes a pair of bills that ensure patients have access to comprehensive reproductive health services and receive medically accurate information from healthcare providers. This legislation restores the rights of Wisconsinites to make their own reproductive health care decisions, free from harassment, intimidation, political interference, and false information.
Abortion Rights Preservation Act would repeal Wisconsin's harmful and outdated abortion ban and protect access to care, no matter what happens at the Supreme Court.
At the Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health, we fight everyday for the power to control our own bodies and lives and for the right to raise our families in safe, healthy communities. Join us to protect and expand abortion access in Wisconsin!
