|  | Legislative Committee Hearings |

| | During the legislative process, a committee will invite the public to express its opinions about a proposal. Individuals can simply register their support or opposition with the committee clerk during the hearing. You may also submit testimony and/or sign up with the clerk to testify during the hearing. |

How to Register Your Support or Opposition to a Bill |  1. Go to the state capitol any time after the scheduled hearing start time. Hearings usually start at 10 AM and, depending on the schedule of the committee, can go all day long.
2. Ask the Info Desk on the first floor in the rotunda for the committee and room as the capitol can be confusing.
3. Go to the hearing room.
4. Pick up a registration slip on the table just inside the door. (They are usually inside the room, but sometimes are available in the hallway outside.)
5. Fill out the date and the bill number, example “SB 138” or “AB 222.”
6. Print your name and your home address. You can print your email address if you’d like, though it is not required.
7. Print “SELF” in the “organization you represent” line, unless you are authorized to represent a specific organization. Please Note: You cannot list yourself as representing the Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health.
8. Select the check-box “registering in favor/against the bill, but not speaking” depending on your view. |

| Tips for Testifying | |
- Dress appropriately.
- Know your facts.
- Write a statement and submit enough copies for each committee member to the clerk.
- Try to anticipate questions and be prepared to answer them.
- Pay attention to testimony presented by others and the committee's reaction to it so that you can adjust your testimony as needed.
- Follow up with the committee members after the hearing.
