| Each year cervical cancer kills about 3,700 women. In 2006, over 10,000 women will be newly diagnosed with cervical cancer. |
| Advancing women's health by creating an environment in which the public and elected officials confidently support women's health policy. |
|
| | Women's ability to lead fulfilling lives and to participate fully in society depends in large part on their health. Healthy women contribute to healthy families, healthy work places, and healthy communities. When women's health suffers, the consequences extend far beyond themselves.
The Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health (WAWH) is an independent, statewide network of organizations dedicated to broadening the base of awareness and support for reproductive health as a critical component of women's health in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health supports a woman’s right to control her own sexuality, fertility, health and well-being. |

 | | | Reproductive health is a critical component of general health. Thus, reproductive health care is a prerequisite for social, economic and human development.
As defined by the World Health Organization, reproductive health is a state of physical, mental, and social well being in all matters relating to the reproductive system at all stages of life. Reproductive health care includes a variety of prevention, wellness and family planning services as well as diagnosis and treatment of reproductive health concerns. |
|
 |
| Wisconsin’s laws governing reproductive and women’s health are some of the most restrictive in the nation. Despite Wisconsin’s progressive tradition, women’s health is by the advancement of extreme public policy initiatives seeking to limit women's access to basic healthcare.
It is critical that the voice of the majority of Wisconsin citizens supportive of women’s and reproductive health be engaged, coordinated and amplified to inform policy makers and protect and enhance access to women's comprehensive health. |

 |
 | A New Approach | | Since July 2004, we have been laying the foundation for an independent, statewide alliance to broaden the base of awareness of and support for reproductive health as a critical component of women’s health in Wisconsin. We are just beginning to recruit organizational members to the new Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health (WAWH). Together WAWH's partners will advocate for the prioritization of women’s health around the state and regain ground in the policy debate.
WAWH's staff will equip organizational members with accurate, timely information and resources to strengthen their efforts in support of women’s health. By notifying members of upcoming legislative initiatives, supplying fact-based, pro women’s health messages, and encouraging communication between member organizations, we hope to increase awareness and build confidence among those who might not have advocated for these issues in the past. And therefore, achieve our mission to advance women's health by creating an environment in which the public and elected officials confidently support women's health policy. |
